A downloadable game for Windows, macOS, and Linux

A surrealist first person adventure exploration game inspired by 90s point and clicks.

Plot

After returning home from a hard day of work, you return to your apartment to find a mysterious note on your bed. Shortly thereafter, you find yourself in a surreal dream-world full of strangely inanimate characters.

Features

  • First-person perspective 3D world
  • Dialogue system with dozens of strange characters
  • Point-and-click style inventory system
  • 6 unique endings
  • Saving/loading system

Note

The game should never be in an "unwinnable" state. You should always be able to progress to an ending without loading previous saves.

A great moderately surreal expirience, there's so much eye-taking things, waiting for the next amazing game!

(+1)

I've gotten five endings. I think I've explored everything there is... but what do I do with the giant brain you get from Horizon labs? Is it just a useless joke item?

(+2)

Correct, the brain doesn’t do anything. Both of the rooms on that floor are some stuff we ended up cutting from the game.

Thanks for playing!

(+2)

I LOVED IT! Are you making any other games? :D

(+2)

Hey there, glad you liked it!

We've got another game planned but haven't been able to dedicate as much time to it as we would like. Hopefully we can release it someday!

(+1)

I loved this game.

It's a wonderfully bizarre game that still feels somewhat grounded.

I felt like I never knew what a door would have behind it- but it all comes together in a great way.

I've gotten 5 out of 6 endings so far (coward, AI, Cycle, Revenge, and Reawakening)- and some of these endings do require a lot of back and forth and experimenting with different things.

You'll want to explore every avenue this game offers- and I know I'll be dissecting this game to figure it all out..!

Amazing experience!!!

Really enjoying your game so far but it seems like there's a weird bug. The island after boat town isn't there. Just empty water. Any ideas on how to fix this? I'd love to keep playing but I can't progress beyond this point.

Hi there, so sorry this happened. We introduced asynchronous level loading with update 1.5 so this may have been an unforeseen consequence..

Would you be able to send us your save file? You can grab it from the following directory:

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\My Games\Sunken Heads\Saved Games

You can email it to us at horseheadinteractivegames@gmail.com and we will have a look. In the meantime we can suggest reloading from a previous save and going to the island again to see if the issue clears up.

EDIT:

We've fixed this issue with a small patch today. Thank you for bringing it to our attention. You can download the new version with the fix. Unfortunately your save game is probably in a broken state. You can restart from the beginning or a previous save. You  can also email us your save game and we can modify it and send it back to you.

Thanks again!

Oops, totally missed the part about it being fixed and sent you the file anyway lol. If it's just a matter of changing something in the JSON I can take care of it myself no biggie

(+1)

Simply amazing and and an experience I just had to play twice! The spine-chilling atmosphere created by the details in the sound design and the pixelated graphics, just wow. The mystery combined with some exceptional dialogue choices made it very fun. Wish we got to see more of the exiled clown lord Twisty.  Definitely feels like this game has an extra layer of depth that most don't have.

good

Love this game and I got 4/6 endings (a cowardly ending, a revenge ending, a cyclical ending, and an earned ending).  No idea what to do for the other two, although I have some unused items that seem important.

(+1)

What a hidden gem. 1000000% recommend. 10/10 would bang.

(+4)

A bona fide masterpiece of game design. I won't say anymore for fear of spoiling it. Play it immediately!

(+2)

Love the game so far however I'm currently pre recording the next ending and I realized I cannot get the 2nd orb that you get from the criminal behind the boat town due to me locking him up before I got his orb. Is there any way I can get the orb without going all the way back to my old save? Thanks

(+1)

You can no longer get that orb in that save, but it is not necessary for any of the endings.

I haven't even completely finished the game yet, but so far it's absolutely amazing. I went into it thinking it was gonna be a relatively short game, but this has TONS of content. It's surprising that this is free with how much content is packed in it. The story, albeit a bit confusing, is very surreal and humorous, and reminds me a lot of some of the weird dreams I've had. Definitely the best game I've found on here so far.

I'm genuinely speechless. What a bizarre game. Very excited to see whatever you have planned next!

Just 100% this in one session, you guys did a really good job. 👍

Earlier today, and after the past few days of me streaming this game to a friend of mine, after about 15 hours of playtime, we got all the 4 endings.

For a bit of context, the past few days he's been going to the newest horror games catalog of gamejolt and itch.io, digging through mostly amateur works, unity asset jams, or well-crafted but ultimately forgettable 10 minute long shorts. Recently, I decided that I would try my hand in the hat and I picked two games. The first one lasted 5 minutes. The second one was this.

This is honestly one of my favorite games now.  Its a phenomenally unique and surreal experience. The progression of the game feels smooth and rewarding. Even with its metroid-level backtracking, the quake movement at which your character moves at keeps the feeling of tedium of going back and forth area to area to a minimal. It didn't feel too obvious but it wasn't so cryptic and we were able to do everything on our own without having to use the medium once. The humor of this game is gold and the atmosphere is very compelling and immersive. The only comparison I can make to the graphics is that it reminds me of old community TF2 maps, but it still feels like it stands on its own with how its utilized for the atmosphere and gameplay.

I really felt like I had to create an account to post my gratitude for this game's existence. Here's hoping it doesn't stay completely unknown, and here's also hoping the best of whatever your future projects may entail.

Godspeed.

Thanks for taking the time to share with us! Good to hear that all the endings can be figured out.

i'm 10000% in love with this game. unfortunately i'm not well versed enough in old games like these to find different endings but if anyone's planned a guide i'd love to read it <3 thank you so much for this genuinely. there aren't enough unique games like these that actually get me feeling a little uncomfortable to play alone at night, lol. excited for any future games from you guys regardless of if it's in the same style or not.

We're glad you enjoyed it yahdua!

One of the best games I've played in a long time!  The 90's era point and click style was perfect.  I was able to get 4 endings, but the 4th I just could not figure out after trying various things for a few hours.

I was only able to get it by using your kindly included dev-console to spawn an item I needed (which I also used previously to noclip through a door I either messed up on or got bugged out on, which saved my playthrough).

I still can't figure out how to get that particular ending legit, though. Can you give any pointers on the endings? You can private message me if you don't want to spoil it.

Def sending you some cash!

Thanks for the kind words and playthrough! We'll be checking it out in full tomorrow!

Sorry about the game breaking on you a bit! You broke it relatively early on by jumping on the boxes to get the second coordinates disk earlier than intended. This let you leave Boat Town without opening the shortcut door to get back.

As for the ending you're referring to it's deliberately obscure to get. I'm not sure I want to post the exacts on how to do it publicly, and I'm not sure if you can PM on itch.io.

If you're still curious, let me know the best way to contact you privately.

Thanks again!

play through:

Review: This might be one of the best point and clicks I've played  especially at the start it was really interesting and linear I got to an ending but I don't believe I got to the true ending it gets really foggy with a lot less direction after a certain point and there's a TON of back tracking still had a great time with the game wish I coulda made it to the true end if there was one which with all the side stuff I found after the ending I received I believe there is.
